#TargetStyle / NY Fashion Show / Episode 2

The 2nd video in a series of 6 videos I shot for Target during their NY fashion week just dropped today. In this episode we interview Petra Strand the founder of Pixi Beauty products. She oversaw the shows make-up programs and sheds some lights on the different style approaches they took. Enjoy.

Saves The Day Secret Show in Greenpoint

DSC02782

Chedda aka Ali has been talking about 'Saves The Day' for pretty much as long as I've known him. Two nights ago they played a sold out show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg where Ali jammed with them during their rehearsal as part of a Kickstarter package. Super cool way to give back to fans that invest in you and support you.

Anyhow, they had their after party at St. Vitus in Greenpoint, not too far from where I live. I met up with Ali, who was with Anna and Fatima, at this after party which to my surprise turned into a full on pop-punk show.

To be clear, I am not very familiar with Saves The Day and in no way do I consider myself a fan, but it's hard not to rock out to and appreciate a band at a two hour intimate, secret show, packed out with hardcore fans moshing around singing every lyric.

I get it now.

Atif Ateeq for TargetStyle-1

#TheRegimen - Chris Algieri

Chris Algieri by Atif Ateeq-1

Jeff from Blind Barber hit me up about a new set of products he was releasing called The Regimen and wanted to create some content around it. The idea was to find a few characters with discipline and passion for their craft and follow them around documenting their regimen. I was in.

Our first profile was of Chris Algieri, an undefeated professional boxer based out in Long Island. We met Chris at his boxing gym and kicked it with him for the rest of the day, ending with him taking us back to his parents house (where he lives) and cooking his dinner with us.

A few days later we went to the Paramount out in LI to shoot the fight and support our boy. Jeff and I had no doubts that he would win and we were right.

Chris Algieri by Atif Ateeq-2 Those of you who are familiar with my work know that lately my video work has been very event and brand based and though this video is for Blind Barber it's not a brand video - it's a story about one individuals dedication to his craft. I absolutely love opportunities where I get to explore other people's lives, to sit down with them and learn, and to gain yet another unique perspective.

Spending time with Chris enhanced my outlook on personal discipline and changed my mind about boxing. I am not big on sports, and rarely ever watch fights but after seeing my first fight ever from right outside the ring I gained a whole new appreciation for the sport. And am now a rooting for #teamalgieri.

This was the final product.

The Infamous DJ Jacket

One of my first classes at ITP was Physical Computing. Some of my classmates came in with some knowledge of the subject but to me this was completely foreign. At this point I didn't even know how to connect an Arduino with a breadboard but this ended up being one of my favorite classes and got the most out of it.

For our midterm we were asked to create a media controller and after a few brainstorming session with my group members we came up with the idea to create a wearable that controlled basic DJ functions allowing the DJ to step away from the computer and to engage with the audience in a more performative way.

This was a fun idea but highly ambitious since no one in our group had any idea of how to accomplish this. This is the great thing about ITP, if anything it teaches you how to figure shit out and be an expert problem solver.

We got a jacket from Kmart and just went to town using a variety of different sensors, Max Msp, Arduino, Ableton Live and we were actually able to pull this off. Unfortunately at this point into ITP I was terrible at documenting my work and progress so I do not have much to show for this but I was able to put together a short video that demonstrates some of the basic functions of this wearable.

Let me know your thoughts. I really want to get back at it and create a 2nd version of this that can actually be used on stage.

Sauza Sparkling Margarita - BTS

A few months back I had the opportunity to work on a web commercial for Sauza's 'Sparkling Margaritas' brand. This was one of the bigger productions that I have directed and had an amazing team to support my vision. Glam Media casted 5 different food and style bloggers to participate from within their network and we threw a colorful girls night-in dinner party and made sure we filmed it all. Below are some BTS photos and the final product that came out of a long days work. A big thank you to all the bloggers who participated, Sauza for the opportunity and to the whole Glam Media team for making this come to life so smoothly.

SHORTIES / 002 Electric Zoo

This was the first year in a while that I wasn't hired to shoot Electric Zoo. It was fun just going and enjoying myself without having to worry about making sure I had enough video and photo coverage. But of course I had a point and shoot with me and was able to capture a few dope shots. Here is the 2nd episode of SHORTIES.

Previous Episode : SHORTIES  /  001 Fashion Week

SHORTIES is a combination of the words Short+Stories and is a video series I started to document various happenings in my life.
